Last time I wrote I mentioned that our son doesn't like to sleep in very late in the morning. In fact, that day he had gotten up at 5:20 a.m. A day or two later Bruce made a trip to IKEA and purchased a clock for his room. That very night we began the process of explaining when he was allowed to get up and come to our room (we also started the tradition of knocking on our door instead of barging right in!.) After only 3 nights of working with him and reminding him that he was not allowed to come to our room until 7:00 a.m., he did it! This morning was actually the second morning in a row that he woke up earlier, but played quietly in his room until 7:00. Of course he shows up at our door at about 2 seconds after 7:00, but STILL......this is a HUGE step forward for us! We've been thanking the Lord for the extra sleep these past two mornings. : )
We have also seen some slight improvements in his attitude. I know that some of the attitude thing has been because he gets frustrated that he doesn't understand us (or we don't understand him). But after living with us for more than 2 weeks now, he's understand much more, and is even starting to use English words every once in a while. So the attitude issues are diminishing little by little. Again, we thank God for this!
Today we went to the U.S. Embassy to fill out the paperwork for our son's Visa and passport. We will go back again on Thursday, May 24th, to pick up the final documents. After we left the Embassy, our translator took us to see a dentist. Our son's health care is covered fully here in Hungary. He has a Hungarian Social Security Card and doctors will give him free treatment when needed. He has been complaining about a toothache and so we took him to see a dentist. This woman was very kind and looked at his sore tooth and saw a small abscess there. Because it is a baby tooth, she didn't want to fill it, so she just drained the abscess and explained what we should do to keep it cleaned out. She said it should heal itself in a matter of a few days. We are SO thankful we were able to get this taken care of right away! The dentist told us that if we had waited much longer the infection could have gone into his bone and caused much more damage. What a blessing to have been led to the right person at the right time. We were in and out within 30 minutes and he said his mouth is already feeling better. Praise the Lord!
We continue to count the days until we can return to the States, but we are also enjoying our days here with our son. We know we will not have this amount of time to spend with him (at one time) again, so we want to take in everything we possibly can. Tomorrow we will take him to a train museum. He's extremely excited about it, so we hope it lives up to his expectations. : )
